With every movement you can see how curious children can be. Curiosity is a beautiful things when it comes to child development. But, what can we do as caregivers when curiosity leads to safety issues. The baby wanting to play with the glass vase and the toddler discovering scissors for the first time. Yikes, those are scary combos. But let’s look at the light at the end of this very dark tunnel. Instead of sayMing “No, you can’t do that!” Replace it with “what’s your plan here?”. This encourages the child’s natural instinct to learn and the parent should follow up with physical guidance. Let’s take it one step further. Now your child believes they are a pro with scissors and glass. What have we gotten ourselves into parents? Well, compromise is always best. We are going to encourage these behaviors BUT with a safe twist. Give the child a plastic vase and kid safe scissors. Then exaggerate how these are JUST FOR THEM! They will love it and it will also build so much confidence for the little tot!
hope this helps!
